Eos Systems Releases PhotoModeler Version 6
Users applaud enhanced power and features of leading photogrammetry software
Vancouver, BC - Feb 8, 2007- Eos Systems, maker of the award-winning
PhotoModeler®, today announced the release of its latest version of the
software, PhotoModeler 6 (PM6). PhotoModeler 6 culminates three years of
development to enhance the already well-acclaimed version 5, which garnered
highest recommendation from the industry journal Cadalyst. The new version
offers many new capabilities as well as overall enhancements to speed,
usability, and visualization.
"PhotoModeler 6 solidifies our position as the leading developer of
powerful, yet easy-to-use image-based modeling solutions, while maintaining
our affordable price point," says Eos Systems CEO Alan Walford. "With every
new release of PhotoModeler, from version 1 in 1993 through to the new
version 6, we've combined user feedback with our own research and
development. It's a simple but effective recipe for ensuring that every new
PhotoModeler version makes significant strides forward in capabilities that
match up with the diverse and changing needs of our users."
PhotoModeler automates the science of "photogrammetry" - measurement from
photographs. The PC-based application enables accurate measurement of
objects and can generate photorealistic 3D computer models. The versatile
tool has been adopted across a wide variety of industries, including
accident reconstruction, architecture, scientific and engineering
applications, as well as film and game production.
In PM6, Eos Systems has added a powerful new "Shapes" function for working
with geometric solids and provides new, flexible means to export results
into other software. The KMZ export format allows users to upload textured
building models into the popular 3D globe application Google Earth, or
utilize the Google Earth's 3D environment as a background for presenting
PhotoModeler analysis of real-world scenes. Automatic processing of
reference points now occurs in background, while the user is working, which
greatly speeds 3D model generation. PM6 also offers new printing and
output options, an automated camera library, and Idealize, a sophisticated
module that removes lens distortion from photographs for high-end film and
animation projects.
In the last few months, a select group of users from a diverse array of
disciplines have tested PM6 Beta on their own projects. Dr. Leyland G.
Young of the Physical Science Laboratory at NASA Wallops Flight Facility,
for example, uses the program to obtain highly accurate creep data in the
research and development of the next generation scientific balloon. "We are
using the PhotoModeler Video Module with PM6, which has reduced our
processing time by 80 percent. Since we are looking at how deformation
happens as a function of time, the video sequencing of measurements is very
critical," says Dr. Young. "From the experiments we've done, we're finding
that the accuracy is quite good and correlates well with analytical
results."
Richard Wolf, Senior Engineer at a major computer game developer applied the
PM6 Beta to his current projects. "The automated 3D registration methods, as
well as the extremely versatile user interface, stand out as just a couple
clear advantages that make this a significant improvement of an already
amazing product. Version 6 effectively takes a highly technical and complex
task and puts it in the reach of a layman, without sacrificing accuracy or
power. PhotoModeler is truly one of the few solid, dependable, and usable
photogrammetric tools."
PM6 is now available for purchase or upgrade at www.photomodeler.com, or
through its many resellers. For a detailed explanation of all the new
features, please visit:
