Eos Systems Inc. Awarded
Software Development Contract by NASA
Vancouver, BC - November 28, 2001 - Eos Systems, the developer
of PhotoModeler software and leading photogrammetric technology,
has been awarded a software customization contract by NASA. The
contract work will enhance PhotoModeler to meet NASA's need for
a software program that can produce measurements and models from
video image sequences. Video-sequence based measurements are crucial
to the testing process used by NASA in the Gossamer Spacecraft
Initiative, which develops enabling technologies for very large,
ultra-lightweight space structures.
The Structural Dynamics Branch at the NASA Langley Research Center
will use the software to perform structural tests on ultra-thin
space structures such as large antennas and observatories, solar
sails, inflatable solar arrays and concentrators, and inflatable
habitats. In order to study the viability of these structures,
NASA needs to measure: 1) deployment dynamics, 2) deployed static
shape, and 3) deployed vibration characteristics. Non-contact
photogrammetry is the only appropriate way to do the measurements.
"We are proud to be a part of this important NASA project",
says Alan Walford, President of Eos Systems. "NASA is a long
time user of PhotoModeler software, having performed extensive
tests and advanced work with PhotoModeler. The fact that PhotoModeler
software has met NASA's high standards proves the strength and
quality of our technology. We are pleased to implement this customization
of PhotoModeler to help NASA meet their goals."
NASA has been using PhotoModeler and images from a digital camera
to perform photogrammetric measurements of an inflatable space
antenna. The new video sequence capabilities will enable NASA
to perform measurements at multiple intervals as antennas and
other structures unfold, allowing them to study shape and vibration
characteristics.

About NASA Gossamer Spacecraft Initiative
The Gossamer Spacecraft Initiative is a new NASA program to begin
long-range development of enabling technologies for very large,
ultra-lightweight structures and apertures. Gossamer spacecraft
technology will eventually allow NASA to undertake bold new missions
of discovery, such as searching for the signs of life on planets
orbiting nearby stars, and sailing through space on beams of light
to places beyond our solar system.
